Blogmas Day 24 - How I spent my Christmas Eve

Good evening everyone, and welcome to the last day of Blogmas! I honestly can't believe how fast this month has flown by - it's actually scary.

So for today's post, I wanted to share with you what I did this Christmas Eve, since I never really do much.

I woke up about 10 this morning after finally falling asleep at like... 4am, maybe? I'm really unsure, but I remember not being able to sleep and I usually struggle to every night. I came downstairs and chatted to my mum for a little while and she started to do bits of housework and whatnot to make the house more tidy for tomorrow.

At about 12pm, I went out with my brother to go to B&M, Iceland, Pets at Home and to try to not get tempted by Burger King. We stopped into B&M just for some little bits and we came out with some nice Christmas things, like a few bottles of wine to share and I bought a case of cider - oh so festive for being an adult! After that, we popped into Iceland to grab some burgers for our lunch and other things, like me buying gingerbread snowmen because I wanted to feel festive and jolly, and what better way to do that is with gingerbread?

Pets at Home was fun to go to because there were loads of baby guinea pigs, bunnies, hamsters and more there, and I am a total sucker for baby animals! We went there to get some degu food for my brother's four degus, as well as trying to find them some treats to have since we weren't 100% sure of what to get them. or give them, rather. We finally found some really nice treats for them that were about £1.29 a bag, and for something to be used little and not very often - it was worth it. I also purchased a 50 piece bone hide stocking for my dogs to share which was £5, so I'm glad I got them something this year to have as a present.

After coming home, I sat in my conservatory with my brother whilst he played Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and I was playing on Skyrim. This happened for a few hours, until about 6pm I wanted to say, then we began the preparations for food. However, that ended with my brother and my mother playing on Rock Band whilst the food was being cooked, and myself browsing the sales online (can I just say, I'm so impressed with the sales so far?!).

When we sat down and ate, we used a whole box of Christmas crackers and actually enjoyed the jokes in the this year, we ate our little Christmas Eve nibbles consisting of baguette slices and pate, pigs in blankets, mini sausage rolls and things like that really. We all had a few drinks and chatted, as well as ate and got excited for tomorrow morning.

I finally got over my 'singing in front of people' anxiety and sang in front of people whilst playing Rock Band, and that was basically our night and day.

Not a specifically festive or Christmassy, but it was nice to be relaxed, eat some food, have a few drinks and bond. I'm currently still sat in my living room (although when you're reading this, god knows what I'd actually be doing at that time), finishing up this blog post and waiting for midnight.

How did you spend your Christmas Eve? Do you do the same every year? Do you have any traditions?

Blogmas Day 22 - This time next year tag

Hi everyone and happy Thursday, happy 22nd of December and happy Blogmas!

As it's the 22nd of December, Blogmas is on it's way to a close and it's the time of year for reflection and progression. I was tagged by the lovely Alice (from Beauty With Alice) to do this tag, and I thought it would be a nice way for myself to set some goals for 2017 and hopefully I'd of achieved them - so thanks for the tag, sweetie!

My mental health

This year has been like an extreme roller coaster for me in terms of my mental health, and for this time next year, I'd like to have it more under control by being able to push the negative feelings away and embrace the positives. This year I've conquered my severe anxiety to the point where it only hits me rarely, rather than it happening more than once a day for a long period of time. As for my depression, I'd like to get that under control because in my opinion, it embarrasses me and I really hate feeling under the weather and depressed.

Currently, I'm a second year university student and for this time next year, I'd like to have passed and go into third year. For me, going to university wasn't really what I expected since my anxiety ruined the lead up for me quite a bit and was the reason I almost withdrew my application. I've honestly surprised myself with being there, in terms of staying in university and not leaving. I really want to graduate and get a job, so hopefully I get my degree in the end!

My blog

I want to grow the audience on my blog. For that, I'm going to write more content which varies a little bit even though the main focus of my blog will be on mental health. I want to grow my audience so I can make new blogger friends, experience new opportunities, do more guest posts and so much more. Hopefully 2017 will be the year all this happens!

Try to stop overthinking

I do this so much and I really need to stop. I overthink so much and think of the future (as in future days, weeks, months) and it's not good for me. To basically stop myself from doing this, I'm going to focus more on the now and not on the future. I'm going to keep my mind in the present and not the future or the past because I know it will make me feel more optimistic with things and less depressed/anxious. As well as this, I know it will help me feel more myself and less of "the entire world is on my back".

What are your goals for the next year? Are you going to set any? Let me know!

I tag:

  • Maisie
  • Laura
  • Meg
  • Tanya
  • Rebecca

Blogmas Day 21 - Blogging hindering your individuality

Hi everyone, and welcome to Blogmas Day 21.

For today's post, I'm doing something I actually haven't done before so for the first time in the history of this blog, a guest post is happening right here!

This post was written by the lovely John (from Johnsroadtovolunteering) and I feel like it's something which should be addressed. I'm so happy about this post, and I hope you guys are excited to read it!

In recent blogs, I’ve shared on John’s Road to Volunteering, my thoughts on why you should be proud of who you are and embrace this in your blog and when I spoke to Chloe about this, she asked if I’d guest blog today. Thanks Chloe for allowing me to write this post for you.

So, HI! As you’ll know (well at least now you do), I blog over at John’s Road to Volunteering, sharing my story as a volunteer, whilst opening up my life troubles to help others in a similar position. It might be obvious that I’m John, the guy who looks so much like Phil Mitchell, but has the heart of the BFG.

Now that awkward introduction is out of the way, let’s talk about the negative impact blogging can have on you.

Yes, I might have drawn you in with my motivational opener, but at times of positivity, there’s always a negative to outweigh.

Let’s start by saying ‘I LOVE blogging’. Blogging has given me so many opportunities to use my story to impact others, and has allowed me to be myself. I embrace who I am, and use my personality to amplify my blog’s purpose.

Here’s the problem…
Many bloggers don’t do this. They think they know who they are, but they follow the crowd. There’s nothing wrong with following the crowd, but at times, you can lose who you are. You can be influenced by those in the group to change who you are and your mind-set.
I love being part of a group, don’t get me wrong, I’m part of many, but when you have others trying to peer-pressure you into changing, blogging can hinder your personality.

We learn, we educate and we empower blogging, and we must remember to be ourselves.
Whether we’re part of a group or not, blogging provides us with an incredible opportunity to stand out. To stand out like our personality should. Every blogger has different thoughts, perceptions and most important personalities.

We shouldn’t forget this. Our blogs can be a representation of who we are, if we stay true to ourselves. Being influenced is great, but when others are trying to change who you are, it’s not worth your time.

Be you, be proud and embrace your personality. Let it be your personality that inspires others to embrace who they are and look back in years to come knowing it was your personality that inspired, not a group of bloggers trying to hinder your personality.

I hope you guys enjoyed this first ever guest post on my blog, and again, I want to thank John for doing this post as it's really inspirational and something we as bloggers can take from it!

Feel free to follow me on Twitter: @chloemtommo, Instagram: @chloetommo and Bloglovin. Also, please go and follow John on Twitter: @JohnRdToVol and his blog which I will link again here.
Have an amazing day!

Blogmas Day 20 - Blogger tag

Evening everyone, and welcome to Day 20 of Blogmas. How can it almost be over? Even though it's been hard, Blogmas has actually been fun and I've thoroughly enjoyed it!

For today's post, it's going to be a 'get to know me'. The lovely Katie (from silverglowx) tagged me in this and I am quite excited to do this. Usually with these I have to make up questions and I struggle hard to think of some, so I'm glad I have some already!

Questions 1: How tall are you?
Surprisingly, I'm 5ft 1, so I'm pretty tiny. Also, my boyfriend's younger cousin is actually taller than me and so are some 11 year olds - which is hilariously shocking.

Question 2: Do you have a hidden talent?
Besides whistling like a bird, drinking a Caprisun in under 14 seconds and having eyebrows that grow back in shape no matter how long it's been since they've been waxed - I don't think I have a hidden talent?

Question 3: What's your biggest blog related pet peeve?
I don't see this as a pet peeve really, but something I wish was less common is photos which contain white marble. I know it's a classic "blogger aesthetic", but honestly, I'm kind of bored of seeing it? I know some bloggers love it, some hate it, but I wish that people weren't so... Repetitive? I honestly can't word it really - but it doesn't mean that if I see a blog with white marble in the photo I won't read the post, because I will.

Question 4: What's your biggest non-related blog pet peeve?
SLOW WALKERS. Nothing irks me more than when I'm trying to be on a mission and get shopping done in a short amount of time and it is literal slow walker season. It royally p*sses me right off and the amount of times I've cursed under my breath is ridiculous. Like, I could be a millionaire if I had £1 for every time I've cursed at a person who has been a slow walker.

As well as this, people buying followers for Twitter/Instagram is something I find a bit silly. Sure, it makes you seem like you have a big following and are popular, but it's not necessary, really. Growth is all about gaining naturally.

Question 5: What's your favourite song?
I've got so many that I literally cannot pick a favourite. I guess if I had to pick one I had to listen to for the rest of my life it would be something by Panic! at the Disco or Imagine Dragons.

Question 6: What's your favourite social media website?
Twitter for definite. It's allowed me to meet loads of new bloggers and make some new connections, which makes me really happy and so glad Twitter is a thing!

Question 7: What’s your favourite way to spend your time when you’re alone?
I used to hate spending time alone because I'd get bored of doing something easily, but this Christmas break I've actually not got bored of what I've been doing. Usually, I'll scroll social media feeds, read, play Pokémon Emerald/Leaf Green, play some games on Steam, watch TV and blog.

Question 8: Whats your favourite junk food?
I love Chinese food (if that is even classed as junk food?), and I also love KFC hot wings and Subway (again, not sure if that's classed as junk food?).

Question 9: Do you have a pet or pet(s)? If so, what kind and what are their names?
I've got two dogs, one is a Lakeland Terrier crosed with a Jack Russell called Tommy and another called Mabel (no idea what breed she is, she is a total mix). I have one cat which is a Black Moggie called Sasha (fact: I named her after the Bratz doll when I was 9), and a dwarf hamster called Chip. Also, currently, I have 4 degu's residing in my home - 3 of which aren't named and one is called Sasuke (yes, like the one off Naruto).

Question 10: What are your number one favourite non-fiction and fiction books?
I love to read a lot, and my favourite fiction book is torn between anything by James Dashner (particularly The Maze Runner series and The Mortality Doctrine series), and Who We Were Before by Leah Mercer. I don't read non-fiction books in all honesty, although I own one or two which I do like (A Work In Progress by Connor Franta and Columbine by Dave Cullen).

Question 11: What’s your favourite beauty product or tool?
My eyeliner, NYX Lip Lingerie (thanks Con) or Kate Moss 107 lipstick - they are my staples.

Question 12: When were you last embarrassed? What happened?
My life is literally a walking embarrassment in terms of I just embarrass myself all the bloody time (I just live with it and laugh). I can't remember the last time I did something embarrassed or had something embarrassing happen in all honesty.

Question 13: If you could only drink one beverage (besides water) for the rest of your life what would it be?
I'd drink this cola drink that I get from Aldi because it's zero sugar and tastes like blended up cola bottles. Or I'd happily drink chocolate soy milk forever, because it's beautiful.

Question 14: What’s your favourite movie?
My favourite movie would have to be either Tangled, Big Hero 6 or The Little Mermaid. I love them all so much and they all tug on my heart strings.

Question 15: What was your favourite lesson at school?
I loved English because I was good at it, as well as I loved to write stories, poetry... Anything really. However, I also loved French, Welsh, Italian, I.C.T. and Sociology (you'll learn that I am a very indecisive girl).

Question 16: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
As much as I love other places, I love my own country. Wales is beautiful and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, even though as I child I wanted to live in Malmo, Sweden.

Question 17: PC or Mac?
PC for definite. I've owned a Mac once and I didn't like it at all.

Question 18: Last romantic gesture from a crush, date, boy/girlfriend, spouse?
(Or any kind gesture from a friend)
As a person, my boyfriend is extremely sweet and treats me so well, I love it so much. The last romantic gesture from him was cuddling me goodnight and falling asleep snuggling with me (which I usually struggle with since me and I get sleep twitches sometimes and we both roll about a lot in our sleep).

Question 19: Favourite celebrity?
I love Bradley Cooper as an actor. He's a really good one and I'd happily spend a day watching his movies. That, and I LOVE Candice Swanepoel and Katy Perry.

Question 20: What blogger do you secretly want to be best friends with?
In terms of big bloggers, I'd love to be besties with Zoella, Fleur de Force, Louise Pentland, Tanya Burr... You know what I mean, they all seem so lovely (even though I have met Zoe and Louise) and I'd love to be friends with them. In terms of bloggers that I know of, Shannon, Elly, Claire are definitely my favourite bloggers out there and I'd consider them blogger besties (although I do want to meet them all one day!).

Question 21: Who is your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is going to have to be my boyfriend. I know he's had a tough time in life and he's come out the other end and his response to it and to life just inspires me to take a leaf from his book. He's helped me through tough times (and put up with my weirdo ass for nearly a year) and I can't thank him enough for everything that he's done for me. I thank him a lot, but I honestly do mean it.

Question 22: What is your favourite blog to read?
I love Shannon, Elly and Claire's blogs so much. All 3 have different kinds of posts and ways of writing and I honestly do a little happy dance when I see that they've posted something new!

Question 23: What is your favourite high street shop?
I love New Look a lot, but I also love H&M and Topshop. Also, I love Ann Summers because they actually provide quality undies even if they are a bit on the pricier side!

Question 24: Are you in education or do you work?
I'm currently a second year university student and I did work over the summer at a care home, but I left due to mental health concerns.

Question 25: One thing you are proud of?
Honestly, I'm proud of how well I've handled my mental health issues the last three years. I've conquered severe anxiety, as well as numerous spouts of depression and I've come out the other end and I'm happy with the result.

I'd like to nominate 5 other bloggers to follow on the tag and (hopefully) answer these 25 questions!

Blogmas Day 19 - Dealing with a sudden loss

Note: This post will contain mentions of mental illness/mental health/death/mentions of death. Please take caution when reading and if you're triggering by reading about mental illness - please do not read on. Also, whatever ways I suggest for dealing with MH is how I deal with things and they may not work for everyone! As well as this, I am not a qualified mental health practitioner/counsellor/psychiatrist.

Evening everyone, and happy Blogmas!

Today I want to talk about something which I've had to deal with recently, and that is a sudden loss. I know it's a sad topic, but it's something which should be addressed and talked about.

Recently, someone from my school year had passed away and that was a total shock to the system. Nobody expected it to happen since as a person, they were always laughing and making jokes, and making others happy. This literally proves that no matter what someone could be going through, not all pain is physical.

As of yesterday (the 19th), I found out that one of my university housemates unfortunately passed away very suddenly due to illness, and this was a complete and total shock to myself, my other two housemates, her friends, family and fellow political followers.

In my life, I've never really lost anyone close to me and I do consider myself lucky in that aspect, but at the same time, I feel like I need to know how to prepare myself for when the time comes, and that's what this post is about. Losing someone very suddenly is a shock to the system, and usually when I receive bad news, I struggle for a reaction. I'm kind of just like "Oh..." and sit in silence until it hits me a few hours/a day later.

One thing I realised I need to do is to not get emotional. This is very hard, since I am a very emotional person. I was told this yesterday, but whoever it is that has passed, they would want you to be happy and think of the good things you and that person have done in life and to focus on that. They wouldn't want you getting upset that they have passed.

Another thing I also need to do is to try and not dwell on it. Again, another hard thing to do but the more you think of what's happened, the more upset/depressed you may feel and that isn't good. Distracting your mind is a good thing for this, and what I did when I found out the news of my passed housemate the first thing I did was cry. I cried on and off for a few hours but distracting myself did help. The things I did were talk to my family members (like my mum and brother), as well as playing games on my phone or laptop. This helped calm me down and relax my mind.

Upon finding out when someone from my school had passed, it hit me very hard even though we weren't exactly friends. It was a shock to the system and I still send all my love to his family and to his girlfriend. I do not know 100% what had happened, but I seen a lot of people talking about mental health surrounding his death. Suicide is a hard thing to have to deal with, especially if it's a friend or a loved one. If it's something which has given you signs of trauma, please seek help. Whether it be temporary counselling, or something like that - please take it. You may think you don't deserve it or need it, but recovery from a type of trauma (whether it be from any kind of death) like that needs to have some form of help.

I wrote this post regarding the passing of my university housemate, Lily, who I will definitely miss. She was one of the reasons I got into politics and I met her through my other housemate Cat, who I'll always thank for giving me the chance to meet Lily.

She was a lovely person, caring and considerate. Her passion for politics was definitely there, and the amount of work she had put into politics in her life is outstanding and seeing the amount of love which was spread on social media following her passing from those who she knew through politics was amazing to see. That political passion was also inspiring for me, because it shows with hard work, dedication and support, you can make a difference to things, as well as getting a good grip on something you love.

I only knew her for about a year, but it was a good year and I will thoroughly miss her company, chats with her about games and politics and the atmosphere she brought with her everywhere she went. RIP Lily, heaven's gained an amazing and beautiful angel.

Thanks for reading today's post and I hope that December is good for you.

Blogmas Day 18 - My Festive Candle Picks

Good evening everyone and welcome to Day 18 of Blogmas! It's getting SO CLOSE to Christmas now, I can feel it.

Today, I'm going to share with you my festive candle picks, because who doesn't love a good candle - right?

Baylis & Harding Wild Blackberry & Apple 3 Wick Candle

This has been my winter scent for 2016. It's fruity but festive and I honest love it. I bought it from ASDA for £8 (which you can also buy here) and it's also a 3 wick candle. It says it has 30 hours burning time, but I've had it lit for less than that and it's hit well over halfway in terms of burning. Personally, I'm not usually a fan of fruity scents, but there's something about this one that I literally just adore so much that I actually bought my mum one as a birthday present last week.

Yankee Candle Christmas Cookie

Christmas Cookie™
I loved this candle last year as my brother bought me a small one as a Christmas present. It's so sweet and festive, as well as it makes me really hungry. It's a beautiful candle and for a large one from the official Yankee Candle online shop at the moment is only £11 rather than £21.99 - a bargain for a large candle really. I wish I had this one this year, because I miss the scent but knowing me, I couldn't ration it and it would be all burnt out quickly.

Yankee Candle Candycane Forest

I smelt this candle very recently, and I love it. The scent is totally refreshing and I am very tempted to pick one up soon. I saw this candle in Wilko and Asda for £13, which is a bit pricey for the size of it, but I've not smelt a candle like this. It's so minty and literally smells like an actual candy cane or a mint humbug. Totally recommend to those of you who like refreshing and a bit sweet scents!

George Home Decorated Jar Candle in Golden Vanilla

For £5, you can't go wrong. It's a nice vanilla scent, and I really love the packaging it comes in. It's so festive and the look of it is so simple and adorable. It's only in Asda (or online here), but who doesn't live near an Asda, right?

I smelt this candle in Asda and it actually smells like After Eight's. This one has the same prices as the peppermint one and are also sold in Wilko and Asda, but also maybe some other places. I wish I picked this one because it smells so good, and I really am tempted to get it. Since I'm watching what I eat in terms of sweet foods, nobody says I can't smell sweet things to my hearts content?

I hope you enjoyed my festive candles and are inspired to pick up some of these!

What's your favourite Christmas scent? Do you even like candles? Have you tried any of the ones I've picked?

Blogmas Day 17 - Blogger essentials

What's this? Two Blogmas posts in one day? I know, shocking for me. But yes, hello, and welcome to Blogmas Day 17! Hope you all had a lovely week/weekend and are excited that Christmas is literally so close now!

For today's Blogmas, I wanted to share with you all what I consider 'blogger essentials', or things a blogger would want to give themselves the inspiration to keep creating amazing posts, or for new bloggers to create their own blogger space. There won't be loads of things on here, because people can do good blog posts/create ideas without these items, but they're just nice to throw out there and make them known!

  • Journals and notebooks - Only recently have I actually invested in a journal/notebook and I do not regret it at all. I actually regret not getting one sooner. I'm currently using one from Home Bargains for #ProjectMH and it's doing great of keeping me on track, as well as noting down names of people involved. I found some gorgeous ones online on Etsy, like a MOLESKINE "list of awesome things" 64 page notebook for £5 (from here) and this gorgeous A6 one for £4 (from here)

  • Weekly Planners - I have seen SO MANY of these around, and I really need to invest in one because in all fairness, they look gorgeous and are super good for organising yourself when it comes to blogging. MiaFelce has been a shop on Etsy which I've seen around as of late and holy cr*ap, this weekly planner is beautiful (view here, and for £10, you can't go wrong really!). Or if you fancy something simple, there's an instant download planner for £1.55 from DoortjeDesign (here). I also really like these ones because there's a nice bit of room to write (especially if you have big handwriting like me) and it comes in a variety of colours, only for £1.20 (here).

  • Motivational prints - I love these because there's nothing more than reading a motivational quote to get the creative juices flowing and a blog post to come out at the end of it! From spellandtell on Etsy, there are so many beautifully motivational prints which I adore and wish I owned - I know if I had one of these in my room, I'd be so motivated to do blogging. I also like a print from VeraLaLune (also from Etsy) which is a infamous quote which is "She believed she could so she did". I love that so much, because it not only gives me motivation to blog, but just for everyday life (here). It's only £2.75 and for decor, that's not a big price to pay.

  • Memo boards - I love these and I wish I had a space for one. I've seen some gorgeous ones around, and I found one on Etsy from LongBeachDesign for £40 (here). I know it's expensive and I wish I could find a cheaper one, but I honestly couldn't.
