Finding the right dress

12:00

Before you guys get carried away about the title, no, I don't mean a wedding dress! Well, I mean this post will be revolving a wedding/engagement, but definitely not mine. Story time! A few weeks ago, my childhood best friend (who I've know since he was born) has an older sister, and in February, after 7 years of being together, her (then) boyfriend asked her to marry him. It was in front of the Trevi Fountain in Rome, might I add? HOW ROMANTIC!

Okay, so I never really like going to formal events, but I'm actually excited for once since I could potentially be their photographer, and it's my childhood best friend's sister, which makes me emotional since I've known her for all my life and she's finally tying the knot! I was emotional when I saw the proposal photos, because I was actually so freaking happy for her.

So, my beautiful readers, get your voting hats on because you guys are going to help me find the right dress!

The party is on the 15th April, so I have no idea what there weather is going to be like, what everyone else will be wearing, but I want to look pretty - that's my motive! I always go for dresses which are dark, I never go out my comfort zone and try something new. For the options in this post, I'm going to vary my taste a bit, but also include things that would make me feel 100% comfortable (or maybe a bit too comfortable, potentially?).

Note: None of these photos are mine, so credit to the photographers and retailers of the garments!

Basics of me

Height: 5ft1 (last time I checked)
Body shape: Hourglass
Hair colour: Brunette (currently dark)
Eye colour: Grey-blue

New Look: £29.99 (x)

This dress caught my eye, because it's a skater dress and those kinds of dresses are quite flattering for my body type, and doesn't 'exaggerate my muffin top'. Yes, you can all groan at that comment because I just did too. I love the colours and pattern of this dress, it's very 'Spring' and also seems like it would be perfect for an engagement party, in my opinion. The only negative I can think of about this dress is the back, as I'm not sure what I'd do about wearing a bra. I wouldn't go braless, so I can't think of an alternative as of yet. There is also this version, which is essentially the same, just more white/grey in it!

ASOS: £35 (x)

This looks more for the actual wedding, in my opinion? It's a gorgeous dress and I love everything about it, although I'm unsure about the price. Since I have to buy some shoes as well, I don't want to be forking out for one day, on something I potentially will wear once. I love the colour of this dress, as I'm quite pale so I think it would suit my skin tone. However, I'm unsure of how it would sit on me in terms of my waist, as I have a bit of an exaggerated hourglass figure. I like that this dress is one shoulder, but again, I'm unsure of what to do about the bra department.
New Look: £22.99 (x)
This was the first dress I initially found, and I honestly like it. I know it's pale in colour, so I'm unsure how it'll look on me since I'm quite pale also. It has a bit of a Great Gatsby vibe to it regarding the second half, purely because of the pattern. The price is pretty decent for this dress, and I know I wouldn't have a bra issue with this one. However, the shape of the dress looks like it may not be too flattering regarding my body shape.

Boohoo: £20 (x)
This dress is really simple, but also my favourite colour! It's also available in black and navy, which are both pretty. I love the mesh panel in this dress, purely because I love mesh. This dress would put me 100% in my comfort zone, however I do always wear dark-ish colour dresses if I ever wear one. A bra wouldn't be an issue here, since a black one would be able to be disguised under the mesh, as well as my hair (if I leave it down of course!).

Boohoo: £20 (x)
Another simple dress, but so pretty! I was torn for colours on this one, as the baby pink looks beautiful, elegant and extremely princess-y! Red is a gorgeous colour, and I'd have so much fun trying to pair a red lipstick with it (and probably sobbing if I couldn't). I'm so 50/50 on red clothing on me, as I'm unsure if it's a flattering colour or not. I can't get a photo of the back of this dress in this colour, but it's completely closed with no revealing lace or anything. This dress also comes in: navy and black.

What are your thoughts on the dresses above? What one should I get for the party? Which one is your favourite? Which one is your least favourite? Let me know in the comments and let's have a discussion!
